You require quality non-treated sunflower microgreen seeds to grow sunflower microgreen at home. To accelerate the germination process, you need to soak the sunflower seeds in water for about 8 to 10 hours. Drain, rinse and sow the soaked sunflower seeds very densely on the soil surface. You can either cover the sown seeds with a thin layer of soil on top or place another inverted container/pot on top during the blackout period of 2-3 days. Once the seeds start to germinate, move the container to a sunny location.

Since sunflower microgreens grow profusely when they are sown densely, its best to choose a container or pot with a wide top and drainage. The depth does not have to be more than 3 inches. You can also reuse some quality plastic containers or trays with some drainage holes to grow your sunflower microgreens.

Microgreens require good quality soil to grow. You do not need too much soil to grow microgreens at home. The best soil mix for microgreens should be of fine texture and well-draining loamy soil.

TO maintain the microgreens you need to add a little water on a regular basis. Do remember to keep the soil damp but not soggy. Side watering or bottom watering is recommended once the seeds have germinated. Over-watering may lead to the growth of fungus.

When the microgreens grow 4 inches from the soil and start losing their shell, the sunflower microgreens are ready to harvest. Use a clean and sharp scissor to cut the microgreens. If the quantity is sufficient, the unused sunflower microgreens can be stored in a damp paper towel for up to 5 days. Before use, wash the harvested sunflower microgreens in water to flick off any seed hulls sticking to the leaves.

The growth process of sunflower microgreens is 2 weeks and required little efforts. Give it little water and sufficient sunlight, and you have an easily grown microgreen at home. Once harvested, the roots do not regrow. So, if you are happy with your first batch, you will need to use new soil to grow the microgreens.
