From 2007 until 2010, the provinces which will host the FIFA World Cup games were represented on coins. In 2007, the Limpopo Province and the Gauteng provinces are featured on the reverse of the R2 Crown. Limpopo Province is repesented by the buffalo, a symbol for unity and strength, and by the spectacular golden rhino which was discovered at the historical Mapungubwe World Heritage Site (900 - 1290 AD). Patterned pottery shards found in the same area are also featured. Gauteng, which means "place of gold", is symbolised by the Union Buildings, and by the lion, an historical heraldic feature of the province's coat of arms.
