You are bidding on an extremely rare Anglo Boer War Queen South Africa medal plus extras.
This auction consists of the following:
QSA medal with a rare combination of six clasps namely; Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill and Belfast.
The medal is correctly named to 3613. SERGT. G. LAYCOCK. S/ DRGN GDS. and has the original ribbion.
Sgt George Laycock was born on the 15th of April1877 and signed up in the 6th Dragoon Guards ( The Carabiniers ) on the 20th of September 1894 at the claimed age of 18 1/2.
As a Sgt in C company he saw a lot of action against the Boers until he was wounded on the 21st of October 1900 in a skirmish near Barberton.
He was hit by a mauser bullet in the lower left arm and as a result lost his are after which he was found medically unfit for service and discharged on the 16th of April 1901.
Also included in this auction is all his original paperwork for his discharge as well as a letter of recommendation from his commanding officer.
His original hand carved pipe with all the various battles that he took part in is also included.
There is also a silver hallmarked brooch and an original photo of a British funeral at Fort Napier near Pietermaritzburg.
This is a truly rare collection of Boer War history which you will not find again.
