VISWANATHAN ANAND (Born 11 Dec 1969): Viswanathan "Vishy" Anand is an Indian chess grandmaster. Anand is a five-time World Chess Champion, a two-time World Rapid Chess Champion and a two-time Chess World Cup Champion. He became the first grandmaster from India in 1988, and he has the eighth-highest peak FIDE rating of all time. Viswanathan Anand, the 15th undisputed chess champion and surely the greatest Indian chess player of all time, was born on December 11, 1969, in Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu, the southeasternmost state in India. Anand, noted for playing quickly early in his career, competed for the classical championship in 1995 and was the 15th FIDE champion from 2000-2002 before claiming the reunited title in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012 winning the world championship 5 times. He held that title for six years until 2013 and has also had a productive post-championship career at an age when many other top players have retired. For the first time since the American Bobby Fischer abandoned the title in 1975, a non-Russian had emerged as a favorite to become world chess champion. Anand with an IQ of 190 became known for quick tactical calculations, winning numerous speed chess titles and earning the nickname the Lightning Kid.
ALEXANDER KALIFMAN: Alexander Khalifman was born on January 18, 1966, in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg). A distinguished Russian chess player, Khalifman was the 14th FIDEWorld Chess Champion from 1999 to 2000. He lost the World Championship to Anand in a tie break in 2000.
