ORIGIN : Imperial Germany (Prussian Army)
COMPOSITION: Gilded Metal
UNIT : Line Infantry
YEAR : 1915 / 16
An EXCELLENT example of a First World War, 1915 Ersatz Gilded Prussian Infantry Officer's Pickelhaube Helmet Plate. This piece remains in a well-preserved state, and would have been worn on the front of the distinctive German Leather Pickelhaube or ' Spiked Helmet ' . The construction is reflective of the Wartime Economy measures ; replacing the earlier pre-conflict Solid Brass Helmet Plates in favour of stamped sheet metal with a Gilded finish for Officer's.
The Pickelhaube as a uniform item, was recalled in mid-1916 and eventually replaced with the distinctive Stahlhelm or Coal-Scuttle Steel Helmet.
An ideal addition to any WW1 Prussian Army / German Military Insignia collection or display- for the enthusiast seeking a unique piece for their assortment.
