ORIGIN : German Empire/ Kaiserreich
COMPOSITION: Steel
YEAR: 1916
MODEL : Type D.
DIMENSIONS: 40 cm
An EXCELLENT example of a WW1 German Ersatz Pattern 1916 , Steel Bayonet with Scabbard. This piece appears to be in a GOOD state of preservation, with serial number present on Hilt. The all Steel construction series of Ersatz issue Bayonets, were introduced as a emergency replacement measure to alleviate material shortages. This process was initiated in 1915 and saw the development of multiple varieties. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface.
This piece conforms to the Type D variant, introduced in 1916 as the Ersatz issue system was becoming defunct. The program was superceded by universal issue of the shortened 84/98 Bayonet.
The ideal addition to any First World War, German Empire Bayonet collection or display- for the enthusiast seeking a unique period piece for their assortment.
