Spinel is a very attractive gemstone. True Spinel has long been found in the gemstone-bearing gravel of Sri Lanka (previously called Ceylon) It may be colourless, but is usually various shades of red, blue, green, yellow, brown or black. The item on display is the Almandine Spinel - violet variety of Spinel.
