In 1938 Henschel was in charge of developing a new lighter medium tank for the German Army. By 1941 the VK 3001(H) was completed, resembling the Panzer IV but with new gearing allowing for overlapping road wheels. Four prototypes were produced, but by 1942 only two of them were delivered, and the program was quickly canceled in favour of the Tiger I.
Two of the prototypes were converted to 128mm Pak40 self propelled guns. The other two remained in Henschel?s factory to be used as recovery training and test vehicles. Kit consists of 230 parts on 5 sprues plus hull and tracks. German cross markings included. Additional features: hatch can be assembled open or closed, turret interior detail, turret swivels a full 360 degrees, 7.5mm L/24 gun included, vinyl tracks.
