It is well known that Burma rubies are the most valuable and sought after in the world. Due to the political situation in Burma (Myanmar) and USA trade embargo against this country, production and exports of rubies have virtually stopped. This has lead to a drastic demand and price increase of Burma rubies. The London Times reported on 30 September 2007 that the only rubies now being bought from Burma are those sold by the military dictatorship in this country, called "blood rubies". The same article reported that high qulity "blood red" or "pigion bloodred" Burma rubies set in jewellery are now reaching prices as high as 10 000 GBP for a 1 ct and up to 100 000 GBP for a 3 ct ruby in London jewellery shops!
Even if the production and supply of Burmese rubies return to normal, this quality of Burmese ruby is still an excellent investment.
