Krugerrand Silver - The 1 oz Krugerrand Anniversary Edition 2017
The Krugerrand Gold the worlds most famous and most minted gold coin celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017, investors had the opportunity for the first time to purchase the popular classic from South Africa in a silver version. The Krugerrand Silver was released as a bullion coin with the Privy Mark 50 Years Anniversary 1967-2017 in the minting quality Premium Uncirculated. It refers to coins with a proof-like quality, sharp details, with highly reflective surfaces, and high quality that have been carefully preserved from the time of striking. The mintage in the year of the first issue was limited to one million pieces, but eventually less than 650.000 got minted and 340,000 pieces were immediately secured by a wealthy individual who recognized the coin's potential, just as some billionaires today are investing heavily in silver to save money. The 2017 Krugerrand silver coin therefore has been quickly sold out at wholesalers since March 2018.
The 2017 50th anniversary release is certainly an important coin. It was a historical release. Paying a 100% or higher premium over and above the value of the silver content of the coin is not an issue when you want to hold a piece of history in your hand.
The 2017 silver Krugerrand was an instant success as it took the stage as one of the most trusted bullion brands in the world. A year after the release of the 2017 special anniversary release, a regular, annually minted, silver bullion Krugerrand was first released in 2018 by SA Mint in Brilliant Uncirculated quality. With unlimited mintage, it was pitched to compete against other world-renowned bullion coins like the American Silver Eagle, the Canadian Silver Maple, and the British Silver Britannia.
I have attached comparison pictures of the offered 2017 Krugerrand with the (non-offered) 2018 regular issue, to demonstrate the much higher mint quality of the 2017 anniversary edition (Premium, vs Brilliant Uncirculated). The Springbok, the Privy mark, and the Paul Kruger face are almost in proof minted quality. The "Krugerrand Silver Bullion" was encapsulated in the year of its first issue in 2017 and is delivered with an enclosed certificate of authenticity.
