Rhodesia, named after diamond magnate Cecil Rhodes, was created a self-governing colony of Britain in 1923. Coinage commenced in 1932. This rare, new and uncirculated crown (5 shillings) was issued to commemorate the centennial of Rhodes' birth and is among the final issues of the colony which was federated with Northern Rhodesia in 1956. The South African connection to this coin lie with its designers and off course, Cecil Rhodes.
