Acacia robusta or Splendid Acacia forms a medium to large tree, up to 25m in height.

It is a deciduous thorn tree and has a very robust looking form.

The branches grow upright, unlike most other Acacias and are thick resulting in a beautiful flat crown.

The Splendid Acacia has small, dark green leaves and pale yellow puff ball flowers.

The flowers form along the branches in a spectacular display and they emit a sweet distinctive Acacia scent during early spring.

The thorns are up to 5cm long and are straight and white in color.

During summer Acacia robusta forms attractive sickle-shaped seed pods.

It has brown to black bark which is very rough with longitudinal grooves in it.

Splendid Acacia is a rather widespread tree in the Northern Gauteng area as it prefers a warmer climate, but is fairly frost resistant once established.

It is a rapid grower.

Easily confused with Acacia karroo but when in bloom is instantly recognizable and unique.
