Bobartia is an evergreen genus in the Iridaceae family that has a creeping or erect rhizome as a rootstock. Most of the flowers are yellow. The 14 species are found in the western and eastern Cape of South Africa and are mostly montane and found in rocky sandstone soils. The Bobartia genus is named after the first curator of the Oxford Botanic Garden, Jacob Bobart. Bobartia filiformis is a South African endemic species from the Western Cape Province. It grows from 15cm to 55cm high with subterete to linear leaves. During summer it bears yellow flowers enclosed by green spathes, with individual clusters at the branch tips.
