Escallonia pulverulenta Seeds

Excellent Windbreak

Escallonia pulverulenta is an evergreen shrub growing to 3.5 m at a fast rate. It is hardy to USDA Hardiness Zone 9 and will tolerate sporadic freezing spells of about – 5°C, the typical morning frost of central Chile. The flowers on this beautiful shrub are hermaphrodite and are pollinated by insects. The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and requires well-drained soil. The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. Plant it in a sunny position as it cannot grow in the shade. It requires dry to moist soil and can tolerate salt spray. This is a very good candidate for a windbreak hedge.
