Eschscholzia californica or California Poppy as it is commonly known is a compact annual or tender perennial native to California and the southwestern United States. It grows quickly, and will bloom all summer and autumn. The plant is extremely drought tolerant, ideal for arid environments. California Poppy has cup-shaped flowers that are 5-10cm in diameter, borne individually on long stalks. Blooms close each night at sunset or on cloudy days. The finely divided foliage is bluish-green in colour making identification easy prior to flowering. The plant is remarkably uniform and neat in appearance.
