Lapeirousia is a genus with about 40 species in the Iridaceae family that is found across sub-Saharan Africa from Nigeria and Ethiopia to the southwestern Cape. Leaves are flat and curved to narrow and pleated. Lapeirousia anceps is a South African endemic species from the Northern Cape and Western Cape Provinces. Vernacular names include Cabong, Cabung and Chabi. It was previously known as Gladiolus anceps, Gladiolus fabricii, Lapeirousia fabricii, Lapeirousia pentheri, Meristostigma fabricii, Ovieda fabricii and Peyrousia fabricii. It grows to 30cm tall and from winter to spring it bears white/pale pink/pale lilac flowers with red markings on the 3 lower lobes. It prefers a sandy soil.
