Sarracenia grow in a diverse number of habitats. Each species have unique pitcher, flower and growing characteristics. All the species in the genus can hybridize easily with one another, and what is also quite interesting and unusual, is that the seed made by these hybrids are fertile. Because they can hybridize so easily with one another and also back cross with the parent plants, and that there are so many naturally occurring hybrids, it can be argued that a pure Sarracenia species does not actually exist in the wild. There can be many Sarracenia species growing in one site.

Horticultural hybrids can be equally spectacular and easier to grow than pure forms. When growing hybrids you never really know what you are going to get. In general, the moes are saved to be kept as a new hybrid or to be further crossed with others.
