Common Names: Rooikappie, Rooi-trewwa, Ewwa-trewwa Satyrium carneum is another beautiful indigenous orchid. It is endemic to the Western Cape Province of South Africa where it is found from the Cape Peninsula to Riversdale. It grows from 35-70cm in height. The numerous flowers are borne during spring on a dense raceme and are pale pink to rose, rarely white. It is pollinated by the Lesser Double-collared, Orange-breasted and Malachite Sunbirds. Growing orchids from seed is a fairly specialized undertaking and it requires a bit of understanding of tissue culture techniques. If you have never grown orchids from seed we recommend that before attempting this you should first contact your local Orchid Society, or purchase a book on the subject, or both! On offer is a pack of 10 Seeds |
