Common Names: Sneezeweed, Helen's Flower Helenium autumnale or Sneezeweed as it is commonly known produces mid-green leaves with multiple large red and gold flowers that make excellent cut flowers. Called sneezeweed because the indians used to crush dried leaves to make them sneeze and drive away bad spirits. Helenium earned its unromantic common name of Sneezeweed because its foliage irritates the skin of some people. Wear gloves the first few times you handle the plant. The flowers, however, are allergen-free, so you can set vases all over the house without a moment's worry! It grows to 120cm in height and performs best in full sun to part shade.
