Thereianthus is a small genus of cormous plants from the Southwestern Cape of South Africa in the Iridaceae family.
They are unusual for a winter rainfall climate as most species bloom in the dry warm summer months. Flowers are blue, purple, or white.
Thereianthus bracteolatus is a South African endemic species from the Western Cape Province where it is usually found in Fynbos growing on sandy flats and lower slopes below 1000m from Cape Peninsula to the Hottentots Holland Mountains, Kogelberg and eastwards to the coastal mountains near Bredasdorp. It was previously known as Beilia spicata var. triticea, Beilia triticea, Gladiolus bracteolatus, Gladiolus punctatus, Gladiolus subulatus, Gladiolus triticeus, Ixia punctata, Micranthus triticeus, Watsonia punctata, Watsonia punctata var. triticea, Watsonia subulata and Watsonia triticea. It grows from 17cm to 25cm tall with terete leaves. During spring it bears deep blue to white flowers.
