Uvaria is a genus of flowering plants in the soursop family, Annonaceae. The generic name Uvaria is derived from the Latin uva meaning grape, likely because the edible fruit of some species in the genus resemble grapes. Uvaria lucida commonly known as Groot-trospeer or Grootvrug-trospeer in Afrikaans and Large Cluster Pear or Large-fruited Cluster Pear in English is a South African indigenous species from the KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo Provinces. It is synonymously known as Uvaria gazensis and Uvaria virens. Uvaria lucida grows into an evergreen climber or shrub with elliptic grey leaves with prominent veins. It bears heads of fleshy green flowers which are followed by hairy orange brown fruits.
