Watsonia is a genus of plants in the Iridaceae family native to South Africa. The genus is named after Sir William Watson, a British botanist.

There are 52 species in southern Africa; all are perennial herbs growing from corms and producing erect spikes of showy flowers, and are adapted to a mediterranean-type climate.

Watsonia galpinii is a South African endemic species from the Eastern Cape and Western Cape Provinces. It grows from 100cm to 200cm tall and is usually found growing at the edges of streams. From summer to autumn it bears red-orange/mauve-pink flowers. The seeds are best sown at the start of spring or at the start of autumn.
