Watsonia is a genus of plants in the Iridaceae family native to South Africa. The genus is named after Sir William Watson, a British botanist.

There are 52 species in southern Africa; all are perennial herbs growing from corms and producing erect spikes of showy flowers, and are adapted to a mediterranean-type climate.

Watsonia latifolia is a South African indigenous species from the KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga Provinces. It grows from 70cm to 150cm tall with very broad leaves. The upper leaves sheath the flowering stem. During summer this high altitude species bears long tubed maroon-red flowers. The seeds are best sown at the start of spring.
