Watsonia is a genus of plants in the Iridaceae family native to South Africa. The genus is named after Sir William Watson, a British botanist.

There are 52 species in southern Africa; all are perennial herbs growing from corms and producing erect spikes of showy flowers, and are adapted to a mediterranean-type climate.

Watsonia tabularis is a South African endemic species from the Western Cape Province where it is found growing in fynbos. It grows to 150cm tall and in summer it bears very striking red-orange flowers. It is best sown at the start of autumn.
