Wurmbea is a genus is the Colchicaceae family from sub-saharan Africa and Australia. The rootstock is a corm and flowers are star or trumpet-shaped. Wurmbea capensis is a South African endemic species from the Western Cape Province where it can be found in the Darling area. It grows to 10cm tall with linear leaves. During spring it bears a spike of many cream flowers. It was previously known as Melanthium pumilum, Melanthium wurmbaea, Melanthium wurmbeum, Wurmbea campanulata var. pumila and Wurmbea pumila.
