"The book documents Javett-UP's inaugural exhibition in which 42 public and private institutions across South Africa have collaborated with us to showcase exceptional works in their collections. The book provides an overview of a century of South African art (1920 - 2020) collected.

The Javett-UP brought together examples of artworks drawn from collections across the country and further afield. Over 300 artworks were nominated as being of particular significance for the exhibition, of which 101 were selected for final display. We looked for works of historical importance in that they played a formative role in an artistic movement, context or era. We also selected works which demonstrated a unique art style and/or technical skill. We wanted evocative works, which would transcend their own time and context and resonate with contemporary audiences."
