Twelve woodblock prints of chrysanthemums by Kono Bairei (1844 - 1895).
Kono Bairei (see Wikipedia) was a Japanese painter, book illustrator, and art teacher. His prints are represented in the British Museum and The Metropolitan Museum.
I bought a set of three volumes of these prints years ago from an Italian dealer in Japanese fine art. I have broken up the volumes to sell the prints individually. Each print has a central vertical fold. This is how the volumes were bound (concertina-style binding). There is a very slight and inevitable discoloration in the paper (the prints are 130 years old!) but they are nonetheless in very good condition and would frame very nicely.
My price is very fair. Individual Kono Bairei prints are offered on eBay for several hundred rand a piece.
