126 BC Tyre Coin
Tyre was perhaps the wealthiest and most splendid city of ancient Phoenicia.
In 332 BC it was laid under siege by Alexander the Great.
Tyre was also governed by the Ptolemies on and off until it was given its independence in 126 BC.
Tyre then prospered as a port city after its indpendence.
