On 8 February 1421 a vast Chinese fleet, led by court eunuchs under Emperor Zheng He's reign, set sail in wooden junks said to be over 500 feet long, embarking on a global voyage that challenges conventional history. According to the author, they reached the Americas, Australia and circumnavigated the globe before Europe. His investigation draws on maps, sunken wrecks, inscriptions and maritime instruments to contend that China's golden age of exploration was hidden by later isolation and Western-centric narratives.
