1802 Half Ships Gulden
After the Nationalisation of the bankrupt VOC by the Dutch Government in about 1794-1800, the New Batavian Republic of Holland took over the Cape from the British from 1803 to 1806 and sent Comissioner - General Jacob Abraham De Mist who had plans for a local Cape Currency and establishment of a Cape Mint.
He found coins at the Cape Including 3 Guilder pieces,Guilders (VOC), Daalders,Ducatoons, Zest Half, and Double Stuivers. These were augmented with Ships Guilders and Fractions thereof that he brought along, although most found their way to the East. His effort is noteworthy and the coins he brought along are really scarce.NGC has graded 8 coins.
Here is the first Half Guilder offered on Bid or buy.
It is ex mount- (the Plug is exactly where the Mint Mark Star of Enkhuizen is) and cleaned but is highly collectible in view of its reasonable detail and scarcity.
