1847 Folded letter cover franked with Penny Red imperforate Loughborough to Leicester

An appealing 1847 Penny Red imperforate on a complete folded letter from Loughborough to Leicester. The stamp is neatly cancelled with the barred oval numeral 875 of Loughborough. On the reverse are clear circular date stamps: Loughborough, August 20, 1847 and Leicester, August 21, 1847, showing the letters overnight journey. Addressed to solicitor J.E. Lawton, the contents concern the case Eddows v Palmer and enforcement of an arbitration award. The letter remains fully legible, and the back still carries remnants of the original wax seal, with some patchwork repair using stamp wastepaper where the seal was removed.
