Original 1861 British Farthing, struck during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901).
This early bronze coin features the elegant "Young Head" portrait of Queen Victoria on the obverse and the seated figure of Britannia holding a trident and shield on the reverse a classic symbol of Britains naval strength.
This issue represents one of the first bronze farthings, replacing the earlier copper issues, and the reeded edge (bord strié) variety is slightly scarcer than the plain-edge type.
