An original 1865 French 50 Centimes silver coin issued during the reign of Napoleon III. Struck at the Strasbourg mint, indicated by the BB mintmark below the date, this coin features the laureate portrait of the French Emperor on the obverse and the imperial crown above the denomination on the reverse.
Minted in .835 silver, the KM814.2 type was issued between 1864 and 1869 and remains a popular collectible from the Second French Empire. The detailed portrait by Barre and the elegant crowned denomination design make this a desirable piece for collectors of French, European, and silver coinage.
The coin contains approximately 2.09 grams of silver and was struck with a mintage of just over 5.1 million pieces for the Strasbourg mint in 1865.
Condition - Fine to Very Fine
Even wear across both sides with the major details of the portrait, lettering, crown and denomination remaining clear. There are scattered small marks, light toning and circulation wear consistent with age, but no major damage or cleaning is evident.
