An original 1869-A Uruguay 2 Centésimos, issued by the República Oriental del Uruguay and catalogued as KM#12. This example carries the A mintmark, identifying it as an issue struck at the Paris Mint in France.
Struck in bronze, the obverse features the distinctive Sun of May, depicted with a human face and surrounded by an extensive arrangement of radiating rays. The inscription REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY surrounds the design, with the date 1869 positioned below.
The reverse displays a large numeral 2 within a horizontally lined circular field, indicating the denomination of 2 Centésimos. This is surrounded by an attractive tied wreath, with CENTESIMOS displayed on the ribbon above. The A mintmark appears beneath the wreath, while TASSET identifies the engraver, French medallist Ernest Paulin Tasset.
This attractive 19th-century issue forms part of Uruguay's early decimal bronze coinage. The 1869 series was produced in several denominations and included coins struck at different European mints, making the individual mintmark varieties particularly interesting to collectors.
A desirable historical piece for collectors of Uruguayan, South American, Latin American, Paris Mint and 19th-century world coinage.

Condition VF
Very Fine condition. The coin retains good overall definition to the Sun of May, radiating design, denomination, wreath and surrounding legends. Moderate circulation wear is visible across the higher points, together with surface marks, scratches and age-related toning. The 1869 date and A mintmark remain clearly visible. Please examine the photographs carefully for exact condition.
