"Thirty-Seventh Thousand" edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland illustrated by John Tenniel was indeed published by Macmillan and Co. in 1872.
Hard cover in bad condition but all pages and binding is in good condition.
While the title page is dated 1872, this "Thirty-Seventh Thousand" was likely printed in late 1871 or early 1872.
  • Illustrations: It includes the classic 42 illustrations by Sir John Tenniel.
  • Binding: These early editions were typically bound in publisher's red or green cloth with gilt rules and a gilt image (Alice holding a pig) on the front board.
  • Significance: This is considered an early, collectible edition, published just a few years after the first published edition of 1866 (which was post-dated 1866, but ready in Nov 1865). The number of "thousand" indicates the cumulative print run, showing the book's immense popularity in the years following its initial release. For context, the 1872 date also corresponds with the first edition of the sequel, Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There.
