This a rare piece of Africana. Clean but there are small closed tears and creases around the edges that won't show badly if the certificate is frames as there is no loss.
Filled in by hand and dated 1 January 1881, when the name of Kimberley for the town was a mere eight years old (it was previously and aptly named New Rush).
The certicate is for one share in the Vulcan Diamond Mining Company, Kimberley Mine (Limited). The Kimberley Mine was situated at the Big Hole.
This is an attractive example of early diamond history suitable for framing.
There are ten transfer forms printed on the back. The first one has been signed by hand by the owner, one John du Pass.
