1885 PATTERN BRITISH CAVALRY SWORD
**Sword Has Been Shortened**
This is an 1885 pattern cavalry troopers sword made by Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co, Solinger. At the time British Makers could not produce enough, so the War Department turned to Prussia to get what they needed. The original swords, with a blade length of 875 mm, were intended as both a cutting and trusting sword.
CONDITION: The blade length has been shortened from approximately 875 mm to 610 mm as well as the scarab which measures in at approximately 605 mm. The scarab is loose fitting. Besides the shortening of the sword, overall it is in very good condition, the leather grips showing wear but are in good shape. There are a number of clear markings on the blade which gives the date 1886 as it's introduction into service along with several other markings. The sword and scarab show signs of age with light surface rust.
