Obverse design: Otto Schultz. The obverse features the portrait of President Paul Kruger and the inscription ZUID AFRIKAANSCHE REPUBLIEK around the edge.

Reverse design: Otto Schultz. The reverse features the full Coat of Arms. Along the edge is the denomination 5 SHILLINGS, followed by the date. There is a star either side of the date. Two varieties exist, with the difference being the shaft of the wagon, which is either a double shaft or a single shaft.

The 5 Shilling was only minted for 1892.
