Issued in 1892 during the reign of Carlos I of Portugal, this Portuguese 20 Réis features the portrait of King Carlos I facing right on the obverse, with the legend CARLOS I REI DE PORTUGAL. The reverse displays the denomination within a wreath, a classic design used on late nineteenth-century Portuguese minor coinage.
KM#533 was struck in bronze and circulated widely in Portugal during the closing years of the monarchy. These small denomination coins are increasingly collected as affordable examples of pre-republic Portuguese coinage.
Condition - VF
A circulated example with moderate wear and some smoothing to the kings portrait and wreath detail. The legends and date remain clear and easily readable, and the coin has developed an attractive even brown tone from age and circulation.
