At first glance a very nice coin, with VF details.

When looking closer, a few peculiarities emerge:
The colour does not appear the same as normal ZAR coins, the amount of wear on the surface of the coin does not appear consistent, the coin show some hairlines that appears to be from cleaning (in an attempt to hide something?), the coin's surface shows some imperfections (visable above on oom Paul's hair and collar, making me think that it is a cast copy) etc. etc.
If you are still not convinced that it is a forgery, two dead give aways:
1) The coin is considerably underweight (I suspect it contains aluminium, which will also explain the colour);
2) The coin is also "coin struck" unlike original 5 Shilling coins which are medal struck (all modern coins are medal struck).

In the end, not a good enough copy to fool anybody with even just a bit of knowledge on the ZAR coins.
BTW this coin comes from China.
So, if you collect fakes or want to study one to help you recognise fakes, or you are on a very tight budget and nead a cheap filler for your ZAR collection here's an oppurtunity for you.
