18ct Gold, Mabe Pearl, Pearl and Ruby Ring

The modern chunky, dress ring is in 18ct yellow gold. At its centre there is a tube-set light cream, mabe South Sea pearl (circa 15.8mm diameter; round; smooth with slight striations; slight touch of grey with some pink overtones; good lustre). The shoulders of the ring are pierced and decorated; have a roughened finish and are each set with a pearl and three rubies. The pearls in the shoulders are cultured salt-water pearls (approximately 4mm diameter; round; light cream with good lustre and slight blemishes). Two of the rubies in each shoulder are round-cut, and one is square, step-cut (the total weight of the rubies is circa 0.23ct and they are all dark red with a touch of pink). The ring is marked "18k"; "R 0.23ct" (indicating the total weight of the rubies), and has what could be a maker's mark.
