18ct GOLD MEDAL: Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother 100th Birthday in 2000

Weight 20 grams. Diameter 35mm. Struck in 18ct gold in proof condition.

Although the certificate states that 1000 medals were struck by the South African Historical Mint, it is thought that much less were actually issued, this one being number 16.

Similar medals were also struck for the Queen Mothers 80^th birthday in 1980 (in both gold and silver being Laidlaw # 0283a) and 90^th birthday in 1990 (Laidlaw only records a silver issue # 0283b) and then this issue of 2000 (Laidlaw only records the silver issue being # 0283c).

We can also find no other examples being offered or sold on the internet so assume that this is a very scarce gold medal.
