What is gold filled jewellery?

Gold filled jewellery is when a genuine layer of gold is fused to another metal under high pressure and extreme heat to make it more tarnish resistant.  It differs to plated jewellery as the actual layer of gold used is thicker and the technology used to fuse the metals  is superior allowing the jewellery to last longer.  However it is not solid gold so caution has to be taken to care for the jewellery (see above).
