Note to the buyer

Based on the high-resolution photos, here is my assessment of the condition and grading which is subjective and this is my opinion and based on my visual evidence Please note that "grading" was not done by any professional organisation or person but solely by my references to catalogues and other information. While I strive for accuracy, I cannot guarantee that all details and information are 100% correct.

Purchase decisions are made entirely at the buyers discretion.

Obverse (Heads Side)

The "Old Head" portrait of Victoria is notoriously difficult to find in high grades because the veil and the area around the ear wear down quickly.

  • Hair & Veil: The detail in the hair above the forehead and the folds of the veil behind the crown are still clearly separated. On a lower-grade coin (Fine), these would be a flat, solid mass.
  • Legend: The lettering is crisp and does not "bleed" into the rim, which is a sign of a better-preserved coin.
  • Grade Opinion: Extremely Fine (EF). It shows only the slightest trace of wear on the highest point of the cheek and the very edge of the crown.

Reverse (Tails Side)

  • The Crown: The "jewels" on the band of the crown and the detail on the cross at the top are still very distinct.
  • Wreath Detail: You can see the individual veins and textures in the oak and laurel leaves. In lower grades, these leaves become smooth silhouettes.
  • Field (Background): There are some minor surface marks and a dark, "old cabinet" patina (the grey/black toning). This is actually preferred by many collectors over a coin that has been chemically cleaned to look shiny.

Overall Grade:

This is a high-end collector's piece. In the British grading system, this would be described as "XF with attractive toning." It has avoided the heavy circulation that most 19th-century silver saw and retains nearly all of its original design detail.

Authenticity:

I guarantee this coin to be authentic.

  •  I do not sell replicas or "restrike" copies.
