Offered for sale is an original 1900 Mafeking Siege 1 Shilling emergency voucher, one of the most iconic surviving pieces of Anglo-Boer War history and among the best known emergency issues of South African numismatics.
Issued in February 1900 during the famous Siege of Mafeking, this note was authorised by Colonel R. S. S. Baden-Powell, commander of the Rhodesian Forces and later founder of the worldwide Scout Movement.
During the siege, shortages of circulating coinage led to the creation of locally issued paper vouchers such as this example. The note states it was redeemable at the Mafeking Branch of the Standard Bank upon the resumption of civil law, making it both a practical wartime issue and an exceptional historical artefact.
Collectors of Boer War memorabilia, military history, Baden-Powell material, siege money and South African banknotes continue to seek genuine Mafeking notes, particularly dated examples from the siege period.
This is a desirable original piece with clear printing, visible serial number B7521, period text, and handwritten signature.

Fair original circulated condition. Edge wear, creasing, handling marks and age toning present. Small area of paper loss to upper edge. Old paperclip rust staining near top margin. Still complete, legible and highly displayable as a genuine wartime survivor.
