1904 ANSONIA "BOSTON EXTRA" CAST IRON MANTLE CLOCK
Open escapement - 4 pillars - with chime

Manufactured by the Ansonia Clock Company, New York USA, this Ansonia is made of cast iron and weighs in the region of 12 kilogram.
It dates from 1904, when it cost the then huge amount of $14.25!
It has an hourly and half-hourly chime and features an open type escapement at the dial center.
Cosmetically it is in an overall good condition, with some fading to the gilded parts and it has been re-painted at some stage.
The dial and trim is in good condition with slight surface rust on the hands.
As far as can be determined, the dial, hands, trim and movement are all original, including the beveled glass dial window.
Please note that the clock does not have a key or a pendulum and has not been tested. Subsequently it is being sold as is. Bear in mind it will need a service or restoration.
This is a great restoration project for any collector of old clocks as it is one of the more sought after Ansonias, selling for over R6000.00 in working condition. The pendulum and key can be replaced fairly cheaply.
I can see no other damage or faults, except for the catch on the rear cover, which is broken.
Please have a look at the images, which are part of the description, and use them to judge the detailed condition of the clock.

The clock has a height of approximately 28cm and is 38cm wide at the base.
From what can be seen of the movement, it seems to be complete except for the pendulum.
Note that the key and pendulum is not included.
