NOTE : THE BRITISH WAR MEDAL IS MISSING

George Frederick Andrews was born in Pietermaritzburg in 1882.In 1906 he served as a Trooper with the Natal Carbineers during the 1906 Natal Rebellion. After the uprising, George settled into the life as a farmer . Upon the call to arms at the start of the German South West Africa campaign during World War One, George joined the 2nd Mounted Rifles as a Sergeant, eventually becoming a Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant. In September of 1915, he was discharged for being medically unfit for duty.In April of 1916 George joined the 8th SA Horse for duty in German East Africa.But at some point, he was transferred to the 7th SA Horse as a 1st Class Warrant Officer..He saw service in GEA for 10 months before being discharged again for being unfit for war service.
