This medal is in excellent condition, it has great toning, and appears to have never been worn. There is a slight rim knock top right of the suspender as seen on the reverse of the medal

Trooper John Kunene was from Edendale , Pietermaritzburg, who served in the Natal Native Horse during the 1906 Natal Rebellion.He was either the son of or relative of Sergeant Abraham Kunene (Assistant Chief of Edendale).

Included in the auction is an extract taken from the angloboerwar.com website, which lists the African recipients of the 1906 medal, extracts from Tylden's book on the Natal Native Horse and 9 Pages on the history of the Natal Native Horse, which appeared in Natalia 35 (2005)
