1908 Straits Settlements 1 Cent – Edward VII – KM#19

A 1908 Straits Settlements One Cent, catalogued as KM#19 and struck in bronze during the reign of King Edward VII.

The obverse features the crowned right-facing bust of King Edward VII, surrounded by the legend EDWARD VII KING & EMPEROR. The reverse carries the denomination 1 within a beaded circle, surrounded by STRAITS SETTLEMENTS ONE CENT 1908.

The Straits Settlements were a group of British territories in Southeast Asia, making their colonial coinage an interesting collecting area with strong historical connections to Singapore and Malaya. This Edward VII issue is a classic early 20th-century colonial bronze coin.

Circulated with moderate overall wear while the principal portrait, denomination, date and legends remain identifiable. There are notable areas of dark surface encrustation/corrosion with green verdigris, particularly across the obverse portrait and surrounding fields, as clearly visible in the photographs.
