British South Africa Company

1910 Rhodesia 1d Double Head

SACC 123/SG123 Bright Carmine

Mounted Mint

14x14 perforation

Below is a 1d Bright Carmine

Please note: Some of the gum has come away with the removal of the mount.

Unlike the bi-coloured double heads the 1d Double Heads were printed in single plates of 100 positions. Thus the identifying flaws for the 50 positions are completely different. There is also no distinction between the head plate and frame plate as they were one.

There was originally solely the Master Plate, which printed all SG125's. Thereafter there were Plate A and Plate B although it is lately believed that Plate A was the original Master Plate and Plate B was an electroplate copy.

Note: one distinguishing trait for SG 123 is to use an ultraviolet light. It will change to an orange hue under the UV light.

The above is meant to encourage interest in the collecting of Double Heads and is drawn from the sources mentioned below. With special thanks to Simon Hensman.
